Who Are We?

We, that’s you and I, are around 100,000 young people between the ages of 15 and 35 from all over Germany. Some say we’re “smooth and daring and always up to speed” (quote from the federal ministry that is responsible for youth). Others say we’re the new blood of the agriculture industry. Actually, both are only true to a certain extent. Even though we represent the largest youth association in the rural region, only 20% of our members are still active today in the agriculture industry.

The rural region is home for us. The place in which to live. And so that it stays that way there’s the Association of Rural German Youths (BDL) as a Federal Association with 18 Regional Associations in which we get involved through youth clubs and local, district and regional groups. We’re the independent organisation of the German Association of Farmers, the German Association of Winegrowing and the German Association of Rural Women (all registered associations).

We mould life in-situ and we like to have a good time but we also do politics, minor and major. Youth and educational politics just the same as agro and winegrowing politics, since the BDL represents the interests of young people in rural areas in Germany. We want one thing more than anything else: to create and maintain perspectives for young people to live and stay in rural areas.

One more thing. With us you learn things which aren’t covered at school. Taking responsibility, for example, but also how to work in a team. Without having fun and without you we can’t achieve anything. So come on, we’re interested in your ideas.
